Having a business web site in today’s world is paramount but just having any old web site put up on the internet is a receipe for instant failure when it comes to attracting new customers for your products or services.

Does your current web site meet with today’s requirements by consumers? In an ever changing world, your customers will be looking for information and they want it quick.

What a Business Web Site Should have

Having your details on your business web site home page is a MUST but you’ll be surprised by the number of web sites we see that do not have the basic information:-

• Business contact telephone number in an easy to find area
• Call to action/contact form for customers to get hold of you via email
• Your business address and location map
• Business Opening Hours
• Easy navigation menu to view your products and services

Ideally, your business web site should have your corporate identity logo prominently displayed in the header of your site. If you current don’t have a logo then its a great idea to start with this process and logo design is readily available on the internet. We can point you in the right direction if required.

Promoting Your Business Web Site

Now that you have a web site, you’ll need to start marketing your brand new business web site wherever possible. Add your web site address to all your stationery – letterheads, business cards, brochures, advertising and even outside on your business signage to get as much exposure as possible.

Every business should make sure that they have a Google Places Listing. It is a FREE listing from Google that enables you to have more business exposure on the world wide web. However, just claiming your listing isn’t much use. You MUST optimise your Google Places Listing to maximise the chances of a top spot on the first page of Google within the Listing section. As ‘local search’ is becoming more predominant in the search engines, Google places huge emphasis on these listings and on most occasions these listings appear before any organic search results.

The Woodpecker Pub Newbury

Karen & Ian Batho took over the running of The Woodpecker Pub in Newbury Berkshire in 2010 and have made some rdical changes to the establishment.

Somerset Web Consultancy were referred to the pub and we duly took on the role to give the pub a stunning webiste that would incorporate their food menu along with having an event page for all the Sky sports that the pub shows each month, along with any other entertainment.

Designed in WordPress, The new Woodpecker Pub web site has a menu facility that can be easily changed within the back end dashboard should Karen & Ian wish to. At the current time, we are FULLY managing the web site for them due to time constraints but we have given The Woodpeck Pub a number of training videos should they wish to manage their own site in the future.

The Woodpecker Pub also has an optimised Google Places Listing and we’re hoping that this will soon start to show results as this is a very competitive market and needs constant attention. Shurlock Row Garages

Based in the small village of Shurlock Row, a few miles from both Wokingham and Maidenhead, Allen Powell has been the proprietor of Shurlock Row Garages since the late 1970′s and built up a huge reputation as a Skoda Dealer.

A number of expansions were required from Skoda which unfortunately the showroom at Waltham St.Lawrence couldn’t have due to space limitations so unfortunately Allen parted company with Skoda after 29 years of service and took up a new franchise.

In 2009, Allen relinquished the showroom and concentrated and the servicing side of the motor industry in Shurlock Row and today still has many repeat customers from the Skoda era.

We built Shurlock Row Garages web site using WordPress in 2010 and we FULLY managed the site for them. In December 2011 we added a mobile website to our portfolio for Shurlock Row Garages.

GE Motors Ltd in Warminster, Wiltshire is a newcomer to the Motor Trade and doesn’t have a forecourt, so he wanted a web prescence in order to get customers to be able to see and purchase his cars. Bernadette Little, owner of Peacehaven Villa which is situated in Loule, Portugal was looking for a website to highlight the beauty of her villa and its tranquil surroundings to potential clients who wanted a luxury villa holiday.

A major emphasis on the site was to capture the stunning photographs taken, the ambience and seclusion that Peacehaven Villa gives to anyone renting this villa.

A weather widget showing the current temperature was a visual addition to show potential customers that this villa gets some great weather most of the year round. There is also a flight widget on the website for customers to obtain quick cheap flight from their country.

We have been proud to be associated with Mel & Carole Elkins at Bourne Valley Service Station since 2004, when we were referred to them to create their very first web site, having been established in the village of Porton, Salisbury since 1985.

Knowing that the internet was not going to go away, Mel realised that his business needed a website to show his used car stock to a wider audience than just serving the local community. As with Little Gems, we created Bourne Valley Service Station’s first site in Dreamweaver but it wasn’t until 2010 that we radically changed the website using the CMS WordPress platform.

This is a fully managed client and Mel simply sends us the vehicle photographs when ready, some brief details and we use our vehicle checking sytem to get the correct specification etc and we create a new listing. We also manage the Blog on Bourne Valley Service Station’s web site and in July this year, we took his site to the next level, adding videos, for which a YouTube channel was created and videos embedded into their web site.

This website’s Alexa ranking has continued to increase month after month and to date, this is our best achievement, having this month (Oct 2011) reached a ranking of 375,321 which is in the top 2% of ALL websites on the www. We have yet to find a small Motor Trader that can get anywhere near that ranking.

We have continued to monitor Bourne Valley Service Station’s Google Places Listing and with some recent tweaking, we have succeeded in getting top rankings for our client with a number of different keywords. ‘Second hand cars Salisbury’ is now achieving the ‘B’ position and will enable Bourne Valley Service Station’s internet prescence to be extremely strong within the Salisbury area.

Little Gems Cars

Little Gems Cars of Andover, Hampshire were looking to upgrade their previous web site that we had created back in 2003 using Dreamweaver. The site was now looking out-dated and a fresh overhaul was due and Nick wanted to have a website that was to be updated more than once a week, so we went to work creating a brand new look web site.

We created a WordPress web site for them to showcase their used cars for sale, giving a fresh new look to their internet prescence and they haven’t looked back since. We recently included a dramatic trailer intro on their homepage using video to capture viewers attention!

We undertook some WordPress training on-site with Little Gems proprietor Nick Anderton, who now has the ability to update his site whenever he needs to and all we simply do now is maintain the site for hosting, regular updates and back-ups. Of course, Nick always has Somerset Web Consultancy to fall back on if any support is required either through email support ticket or by phone.
